On Thursday, February 24th we headed to Ft. Worth to finalize Rebecca's adoption in court. Rebecca has a cold but was still an angel on the plane. Daniel was so excited to go to the airport and see airplanes that he asked every single day this week when we were leaving:) Now Daniel gets the window seat and Michael is in the middle seat b/c they both love flying and looking out the window to see other planes. Daniel knows that he is from Texas so he was especially happy to go back to Texas.
Friday, February 25th was our big day in court. It is hard to believe that 6 years ago we were accepted by Gladney. Little did we know then that we would have two amazing children join our family. We love Daniel and Rebecca with all our hearts. We have been explaining to Daniel all week that he is going in front of a judge and that he has to be good! When we arrived at the court, we met with our lawyer to sign final papers. Daniel thought he was the judge, but then I explained he was the lawyer. So Daniel said, "Bye Lawyer" when we finished the paperwork.
Daniel managed to figure out that he could play hotwheels in the courthouse of course. Waiting is not his strongest talent. Rebecca was an angel as always even with a cold. Meredith, out caseworker from Gladney, joined us for the afternoon in court. We were honored to have her there with us. And she was thrilled to see Daniel and Rebecca. Adoption Day is very special in court. The judge has all the families who are adopting each month come together to court for the celebration of adoption. There are teddy bears in court and it is such a wonderful environment. We were honored to be there and have Rebecca officially join our family.
Daniel had to wait a while since our family went second to last. He kept saying, "I want to see the judge". Right before we have to go in front of the judge, Daniel and Rebecca fall asleep. They were just exhausted. So we go in front of the judge and he asks if we put them to sleep. After the judge called us up, we said we would love Rebecca forever! We then got to stand with the judge for pictures. The judge asked Daniel a question, and Daniel replied, "I am sleepy". He did manage to give the judge a high-five. Rebecca could not even wake up for the judge - pretty funny. Daniel picked out a pink bear for Rebecca and Tiger for himself. We have been so blessed by the gift of adoption twice! God has shined on us and we thank our two special birth mothers forever.
Friday afternoon we walked around Fort Worth and stopped for pizza for Daniel. Then we decided to stay in since Rebecca is still getting over a virus. We ordered Mexican food for dinner which was excellent. Then we all watched "Toy Story 3" as a family. A very special day indeed.
